Got a Valentine Who Needs a Little Health Inspiration?

If you have a partner who may not embrace your attempts at healthy living, you could become their healthy living guide.

Care: They need to know your intentions are motivated by a genuine concern for their wellbeing. Avoid manipulation and guilt. Be sincere.

Goal Setting: Set a goal. No matter how small. When they accomplish that goal, be sincere in your support and congratulating them. Celebrating a goal can keep them motivated to continue this path of wellness.

Only Be Positive: It’s too easy to criticize people. Just don’t do it.

Build Them Up: It doesn’t have to be health related. Point to something they’re wearing or something they’ve done and acknowledge it. If it’s a simple first step in moving, be proud of what they did.

Be an Active Listener: Anyone can hear the words other people say, but not many people can actively listen and comprehend those words to fully understand the meaning behind them. Active listening tells them you care, you’re aware of their situation and you hear them. This builds trust and serves as good intimacy to share.

Is it a Cold or is it the Flu?

Cold symptoms are usually milder than symptoms of the flu. People with colds are more likely to have a runny or stuffy nose. Colds generally do not result in serious health problems. They come on slowly and may include fatigue and some chest discomfort. The flu however, can include fever/chills, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, muscle or body aches, headaches and fatigue (tiredness). The flu also can hit you like a brick wall.

Put Your Best Face Forward

Eating a healthy diet can help promote clear skin and prevent acne. Find out what to stash – or trash –to get that glowing skin you’ve always wanted. Use these tips to begin your search for the perfect, beautiful-skin diet tailored to you.

Foods to avoid include the normal culprits to avoid in any diet – the highly processed, white foods and those loaded with sugar. Not only do these foods cause your blood sugar to spike, they also cause all over body inflammation which includes, you guessed it…acne.

Given the relationship between inflammation and acne, foods that have an anti-inflammatory effect might help calm the skin and prevent acne. Unhealthy fat can trigger inflammation, but you don’t want to steer clear of fat altogether. Healthy foods for clear skin include good sources of omega-3 fatty acids, such as fatty fish like salmon and sardines as well as avocados, walnuts, and chia seeds.
