Dr. Ratz is a native of the Chicago area. He received his medical degree from Case Western Reserve University College of Medicine. His post-doctoral training in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery was completed at the Cleveland Clinic.

He has been co-director of the Dermatologic Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic, Director of Dermatologic Surgery at the University of Cincinnati, the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans and most recently at the Medical College of Georgia. He is considered an International expert and pioneer in cutaneous laser surgery and is internationally known as a Mohs surgeon. ................................................................................
